La gora di mulino for piano quartet was composed in June 1998. The commission was made possible by Colin Senior for Chamber Music 2000, the Schubert Ensemble's project for young musicians. The title means "the mill-pond" and the mood of the piece is appropriately ruminative. The windmill itself is portrayed in the mechanical and circular aspects of the music.
