In Latvian, Kūmas Dziesma means godparents' song. In the words to this particular song the godparents are looking for a name for the Padei. In old Latvia all babies under eight to ten days old were referred to as Padei and were not given names at birth because of the high rate of infant mortality. This piano trio was written just after Vibrancy, to provide a
technically easier item than Vibrancy turned out to be, for the Schubert Ensemble's Chamber Music 2000 project.
