Joe Cutler was born in London in 1968 and studied at the Universities of Huddersfield and Durham, and at the Chopin Academy, Warsaw on a Polish Government Scholarship. His music is regularly performed and broadcast all over the world, and performers have included the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, English Northern Philharmonia, London Sinfonietta, City of London Sinfonia, Lontano, Ensemble de Ereprijs, Alain Trudel, Harry Sparnaay, Tomoko Mukaiyama and the Netherlands Wind Ensemble (who featured Sal's Sax in their 2001 New Year concert for Netherlands TV from the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam.)
In 2000, he co-founded the new music collective Noszferatu and since August 2005 he has been Head of Composition at Birmingham Conservatoire..
Recent commissions include Macedonia for Darragh Morgan and COMA London Ensemble, Sikorski for Noszferatu (commissioned by the 2005 Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival), Cinnamon Street for the Scottish and Swedish Chamber Orchestras and Ulf for the London Symphony Orchestra. Without Fear of Vertigo has been recorded by the London Sinfonietta for NMC (on Live from State of the Nation 2001, NMC D078).
