Geoffrey Poole has written several pieces for amateur and student performers, ranging from medieval choral music to Sailing With Archangels for wind band and the lighthearted Skally Skarekrow's Whistling Book. His other recorded compositions such as the string quartets push performing demands to extremes. Geoff's internationalist leanings are evident in his interest in African and Asian cultures both for themselves and as a way to enrich the European classical tradition. His larger works include concertos for drummer (Two Way Talking) and Javanese gamelan (Swans Reflecting Elephants) besides the most recent one for piano and brass (Lucifer) . He is Professor of Composition at Bristol University having worked previously in Manchester, Nairobi, and Princeton.
