Roxanna Panufnik

Roxanna Panufnik studied composition at the Royal Academy of Music and since that time has written a wide range of works including opera, ballet, music theatre, choral and chamber works, as well as music for film and television.

Commissions have included Westminster Mass premiered at Westminster Cathedral in honour of Cardinal Hume's 75th Birthday and now released on CD, an opera for the Polish National Opera, The Music Programme, the London premiere forming part of the BOC Covent Garden Festival and settings for solo voices and orchestra of Vikram Seth's Beastly Tales - the first of which was commissioned by the BBC for Patricia Rozario and the City of London Sinfonia. Other recent compositions include Roxanna's critically acclaimed harp concerto Powers & Dominions; Letters from Burma for oboist Douglas Boyd and the Vellinger String Quartet; Leda, a ballet for English National Ballet and Wratislavia Cantans and Abraham - a violin concerto commissioned by Savannah Music Festival for Daniel Hope, incorporating Christian, Islamic and Jewish music. Her music is frequently performed in London and across Europe, America, Australia and the Far East. Roxanna has also had much experience in educational work - she was the first ever Composer-in-Residence for the Royal County of Berkshire '95/6, teaching composition to 300 school children between the ages of 4 and 18. She has also been involved in educational work with the City of London Sinfonia and ran a composition project (alongside her reconstruction of the 18th century opera Inkle & Yarico) in schools in Barbados '96/7. She now gives workshops and adjudicates regularly in schools around the country.

Many of her compositions such as Angels Sing!, Suite Memories, Olivia ,The Upside Down Sailor and Little Polish Suite are entirely suitable for non-professional musicians or for school aged players alongside professionals. www.roxannapanufnik.com
